Boys Town founder Fr. Flanagan warned Irish Church about abuse

Father Edward Flanagan, founder of the famous “Boys Town” made famous by Spencer Tracy, attacked Ireland's reform schools in 1946 and was roundly dismissed for doing so by the Irish establishment. Speaking to a large audience in Cork in 1946 he said. "You are the people who permit your children and the children of your communities to go into these institutions of punishment. You can do something about it." However, his words fell on stony ground. He wasn't simply ignored. He was taken to pieces by the Irish establishment. The then-Minister for Justice Gerald Boland said in the Dáil that nobody could take Fr. Flanagan seriously because his statements "were so exaggerated."

THE report of the Commission on Child Abuse makes clear the depravity and monstrous behaviour of the Catholic Church. They stole, lied and terrorised. They assaulted children. They scalded them, flogged them and . . . raped them. Sometimes, the children were gang-raped. The holy men and women locked children up for days in tiny rooms, cupboards and pig sties. One recalls being bitten by rats during his incarceration.

Bill Clinton has not forgiven Ted or Caroline Kennedy for their support of Barack Obama during the heated primary fight for the Democratic nomination last year. The New York Times magazine reports on Sunday that Clinton felt he “did so much” for the Kennedys and that they had become 'family.' He felt deeply betrayed when they endorsed Obama instead of his wife.

A County Kildare native living in the U.S. since he was 18 is said to be the winner of a whopping $41 million New York lottery jackpot. A report in the Irish Independent claimed on Monday -- and was backed by countless rumors in the heavily Irish populated neighborhood of Yonkers -- that Donal Finnan, originally from Maynooth, Co. Kildare, is the winner via a ticket bought at the Lotto Plus store on McLean Avenue in Yonkers on Saturday, May 16.
